Private Residence

Madison, WI

This project reworked the previous kitchen which had served the clients when all of their children were still at home. Once the empty-nester phase rolled in, needs changed.

The design worked within the original footprint and window locations while it relocated and reconfigured the original soapstone counter. The focus of the space is a striped-solid hardwood patterned island for baking, food preparation and mingling with guests. Storage, materials, and spaces were developed to account equally for cooking and baking.

A playful tile backsplash was inspired to complement the clients’ collection of Mexican Talavera pottery.
