A retired couple dreamed of a home which they could grow older in so that it mobility issues wouldn't force them to move or renovate.
The tight lot, orientation and grades led to the development of an "L" shaped design with living and sleeping wings. The west face has limited windows to insure privacy and limit solar heat gain while the east face a court and has a large expanse of glass for a strong indoor-outdoor connection.
Low-sloped roofs limit the impact on the neighbors, navigate roof water to appropriate locations and provide shade where needed. A simple, clean mix of materials accent the exterior.
All doors, bathrooms and circulation paths are designed following Universal Design or ADA guidelines. The lower level is designed to for a future caretaker suite.
