Hill Farm Swim Club

Madison, WI

Built in 1960, the facility had served its members well. Still, the time had come to replace the pool, provide modern locker rooms and provide accessibility. The charge of the project was to develop a master plan which preserved the best features of the facility. It needed to fit the neighborhood environment, a family setting, and be suited to both recreational and competitive swimming.

The client was presented with six master plan alternatives for the pool, drop-off and parking elements and then six schemes for the pool house renovation and expansion. This multi-scheme approach allowed the entire design team (owner, contractor, engineer and architect) to quickly reach a consensus for a single scheme.

Architecture of the pool house addition is in keeping with existing with modern element to allow the two to be distinguished. The interiors are brought alive with fun, bold colors.

The final design provided for an eight-lane, twenty-five-meter pool, a modernized and accessible pool house, a safer parking lot with ample bicycle parking and a drop-off area.
